ENERGY INDEPENDENCE

Necessity is the Mother of Invention (not Government)

The Diagnosis:

On the day I am typing this, Prime Minister of Russia, Putin met with Hugo Chavez in Venezuela.  Most of the rest of the oil available is in the Middle East, in countries that don't seem to care much for us . Mr. Chavez has plenty of oil but his country is experiencing brown outs and black outs because of his command economy. We are at the mercy countries that don't like us and we are giving them billions of dollars in return.

Certain people in the Obama Administration have said they would like gasoline to be $6-8/gallon. Our economy suffered greatly when it got to $4/gallon

The Rx:

1. Multiple sources of Energy

We must in this country become independent with our energy resources.  And I am sorry, but a windmill in every yard is not going to do it!  Is there a role for wind power? Yes, probably. But the wind must blow in order for it to work.  Same with solar power, it will only work if the sun shines and most of the third district is considered the second least sunny area of the country.  We have an abundance of coal, natural gas and yes, oil.  We need a comprehensive plan that uses all these possibilities plus others, like nuclear and hydrogen. We now have the technology to do these in a "environmentally friendly" way. And we need to unleash our young people to invent the next great innovation.

2. Free Market Solutions

The government does not know what is best. Use ethanol for example.  Corn as a fuel is very inefficient and has required a lot of subsidies to make it viable. Not to mention raising the cost of corn around the world.  If some idea is not financially viable on its own then the government should stay out and not subsidize it.  Let the creativity and ingenuity of the American people be unleashed onto something that is viable and will be able to stand on its own in the marketplace.
